A New Wheelchair for Critically Ill Patients

Last year we were delighted to join with CW Plus to fund a specialist Barton wheelchair for the Respiratory Physiotherapy team. We have recently received these brilliant photos of staff demonstrating the chair.

Physiotherapist Emma Bowen said, “The Barton chair has allowed us to assist our more complex ICU patients out of bed. These are patients who cannot be hoisted, maybe due to their surgery, pain or even because they still have an endotracheal tube in situ.  It has helped us to start rehab as early as possible for all patients which will ultimately improve their function and potentially reduce their length of stay.
