Volunteer With Us

Volunteering with The Friends is a rewarding and enjoyable experience that allows you to participate in the daily life of the hospital. We are always looking for new recruits, so if you have some spare time and would like to help out, do get in touch. We ask most volunteers to commit to a regular weekly session, but occasional work may also be possible. Please note that certain roles require DBS clearance and an Occupational Health check, but our Charity Manager is happy to guide applicants through this process.

Shop Trolley

Our volunteers take the Shop Trolley round the wards morning and afternoon, either alone or in pairs. A shift takes about three hours. Volunteers are required to commit to a regular shift or to be on standby for occasional sessions.

Library and Library Trolley

Volunteers take the library trolley round the wards three times a week to allow patients and staff to borrow books. Others help behind the scenes in the library, cleaning and sorting stock.

Book and Bric-a-brac Stalls

Book and bric à brac sales take place at the hospital on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm. Volunteers help with selling the goods donated. There is some lifting and carrying to be done.

Staff Lunch Trolley

In November 2022 the Friends took over the Staff Lunch Trolley, which had previously been run by B Bagel but ceased operating in March 2020 due to Covid. Volunteers take the trolley round the wards to to allow staff to purchase bagels and other items. This is a really popular service as many staff do not have the time to leave the ward to get lunch.

Occasional Events

We sometimes need volunteers to help with occasional or one-off events such as the Summer/Christmas fairs or larger fundraising events.
