Music Therapy Gets A Little Help from the Friends

In November 2023 the Friends were delighted to purchase a 3/4 size cello for the Children’s Music Therapy department. Music Therapists work with children who may have a wide range of physical, communicational, emotional and sensory needs, often including impairment or delay in use of voice.  The cello’s pitch range is the most closely matched to the human voice, making it particularly well-suited to supporting and encouraging use of voice in music therapy. Furthermore – as a large, wooden instrument – the cello offers particular sensory qualities for working alongside the very young and those with complex needs. We are very pleased to be supporting the department in their work with these vulnerable children and young people and hope the new cello will offer a real boost to the already fantastic service they provide.
